During Win vista installation I always get an error that hard disk was not detected, however the harddisk is good because I succeeded to install Linux on this computer. I got advised to add the HP drivers trying to edit the Windows Vista CD installation kit with a free software named 'Vista Lite Windows CD editor.

Did you format the partion (with Vista on it) with the XP CD? Then what did you use to move the XP image back to the laptop, since the laptop now has no OS? I then unhooked that drive and restarted the system with the Vista CD...picked the XP partition as a new install and formatted during the Vista Install.

My laptop has two hard drives. I took out my old D drive, and placed in my new hard drive. I then asked Vista to do a clean install on this hard drive. Everything appears to go well. Okay I swap out my old failing c Drive and place in my newly installed vista installation. Now it says Boot manager is missing.
